This annual event celebrates the anniversary of the Philadelphia Academy of Music. 2007 marked the 150th Anniversary of the Academy, and as such called for a unique and exciting twist on this long-standing tradition.

The buzz generated by the prestigious milestone and the attendance of The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall bumped the expected attendance to 2500+ guests. The idea of the tent on Broad Street was born to serve both function and form. Not only would the tent accommodate the larger guest list, but it would be the first time in Philadelphia’s history that the street would be closed so that people could dine and dance on the busy thoroughfare.
The challenge to arise was the allotted time frame for installation. The event was scheduled to begin at 7 PM on Saturday evening. Street access began at 11 PM Friday evening, with a completion deadline of 9 AM Saturday morning. In this 10-hour period we needed to install a 2’ high leveled floor, a 40’ x 145’ Aztec Jumbo Trac Frame Tent with clear middles, and various support tents. To accomplish this, a highly detailed loading and installation schedule was created. Each of the 11 trucks was loaded in a precise order and scheduled to reach the job site based on where they would park upon arrival. This insured that each crew would be perfectly positioned to begin their assigned task in order to meet the deadline. In fact, loading and coordination took longer than the actual installation, proving that the time invested prior to the job was crucial to overcoming the time challenge.
